04.01 - Inferencing with Meat

We started today's class with fifteen minutes of reading from everyone's free choice books (or any class novels that are currently being read). During this time I met and spoke individually with people about their books. At the end of this reading time, everyone recorded their progress on their reading sheets and tallied up their total page count for credit in their reading for this reading section.

We then returned to working with the vignette "They're Made out of Meat" from last class. We began by reviewing what inferences are and practiced by making inferences based on activity cards from my Tumblr site. We then took a look at the Inferencing with Meat sheet that we are using to guide our reading. Everyone had fifteen minutes to revisit the vignette and make as many inferences as they could about the speakers of the story. In the last five minutes of class, we began sharing these inferences out. We will finish sharing these out and wrap up our work with the story next class.

Handouts:

They're Made out of Meat
Inferencing With Meat

Homework:

If you did not do so in class, finish making inferences about the speakers in "They're Made out of Meat" (question 2 on the Inferencing with Meat sheet).

Read for two hours from your free choice book and/or novel-style class texts.
