We started today's class with fifteen minutes of reading from everyone's
free choice books (or any class novels that are currently being read).
At the end of this reading time, everyone recorded their progress on
their reading sheets.
We then returned to looking at the found poems that everyone worked on last class with the substitute. This is something that had confused a variety of people so we went back over the found poem sheet that had been handed out in class.
In reviewing this sheet, we took time to have an in-depth discussion of the poem on the back of this sheet ("Found Poem" by Howard Nemerov). Our discussion focused on what the poem was about and what message that topic was supposed to communicate.
We then returned to the front of the sheet and looked at how to make a found poem from the material there. I showed everyone two poems that I had made from the words on the sheet (see below). Then, everyone had time to try and make their own poem.
